...Saguaro Lake
in the east valley

Saguaro Lake is one of four Salt River resevoirs dammed up by the Stewart Mountain Dam, built in 1930. The lake, in the Tonto National Forest, is surrounded by U.S. recreation areas that offer boating, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnic and camping activities along its shoreline. A boat cruise, the Desert Belle, runs at least three times daily.

Saguaro Lake is the most westerm of Roosevelt, Apache and Canyon lakes. It's east of Mesa near the Usery Mountains.

Sprint is such a wonderful time to visit the lake, when the Creosote trees are in bloom.

In another section of the lake, north of the marina and called the Butcher Jones Recreation area, there is a beach, picnic area and hiking trail. This is the view from the beach.

Salt River
Access to the Salt River can be found here at a recreation site called Water Use Camp Circle. The scenery of the mountains across the Salt River is way prettier than the name. It's located on Bush Highway south of the lake just past the Saguaro Lake Ranch cutoff (as you're leaving Saguaro Lake). The remaining shots were taken at that rec area.
