The coastal drive between Applecross and Gairloch on the west side of Scotland's Highlands is one of the most impressive coastlines I saw during my week in Scotland.
Almost Mediterranean in appearance, with its green waters and tropical plants, it was quite different from anything else I saw in the country.
Most of the pictures on the upper half of this page were taken there.
The road between Applecross and Gairloch is a series of twists and turns, and around each bend a breathtaking panorama.
These little ducklings were taken well care of on the grounds (left) of The Old Inn on the south outskirts of Gairloch.
Left: Dunnet Head is 'bout as far north as you can go in northern Scotland. It's located just west of John O'Groats.
Right: Taken on the walking trail to the Flowerdale Waterfall behind The Old Inn just outside Gairloch.
Right: Taken on Highway A87 toward the Kyle of Lochalsh.
The next series of shots was taken of what is called 'The Stacks.'
They are not particulary easy to find nor marked, but once you do find them, it's worth the walk across the lightly-trodden pasture you take to get to them.
They're located on the very most northeastern tip of the Highlands at Duncansby Head by John O'Groats.
