Aaaaah, Ireland. Does it get any sweeter? From the beautiful green countryside to the waters of Donegal Bay with its tiny yellow shells, we felt a bit of Heaven. The people, with their distinctive sing-song lilt, are the salt of the earth.

Standing 100-feet tall and built in the 12th century, this Round Tower is located in the seaside village of Ardmore, County Waterford. It's one of a few structures that remains today from a monastery founded in the 5th century. And it's one of mamy round towers scattered throughout Ireland , most of them being what's left of monastic structures.

In County Tipperary stands this fortress called The Rock of Cashel, or known by some as St. Patrick's Rock. Its origins go back to the 4th or 5th century.

The Cliffs of Moher is a highlight in Ireland. The cliffs rise 700 feet (214 meters) and travel a distance of around 9 miles (14 km) along Ireland's western coast in County Clare.

The County Donegal countryside is pure delight. As much as I enjoyed it, I was excited about getting to its coastline at Donegal Bay. County Donegal is ireland's northern most county.

I don't remember the distance we had to walk to get from the parking lot to the Donegal Bay coast, but I do remember there being a gate. We were hesitant to go through because we thought perhaps we were walking onto private land. However, as we were standing there pondering, along comes a man in his truck. He said we most certainly can go through the gate, just close it behind us...so as not to let the sheep out.

While traveling Ireland, we made a trip into Northern Ireland to catch the ferry that crossed over to Scotland. While in N. Ireland, we stopped in at the Giant's Causeway, a remarkable formation of basalt rocks that extend into the sea. Here's a link for those who might be interested.
