The town of Marble, population less than 100, isn't what I'd call a charming town by any stretch of the imagination. But it has a couple of interesting areas, and I spent a couple hours exploring them. Starting out at Beaver Lake, I took a walk around its perimeter, marveling at the clear reflections of the surrounding mountains.
Next came the old Marble Mill Site Park, now in ruins, but it offers a self-guided tour of what used to be an active mill site. From this site came marble used in the making of the Lincoln Memorial and in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, both in Washington, D.C.
The town still has an active marble quarry, and you can see huge blocks that have been cut out and are ready for shipment. The quarry itself is not open to the public.
