...Jasper National Park
Alberta, Canada
The Colin Range (above and below, left and right) and Mount Tekarra (right) ocassionally popped out from behind the clouds while I was in Jasper.
Jasper hasn't the crowds that Banff has, but it has as much to offer to those who make the trip a little further north. Strolling hiking trails, cozy lodging and delicious food. What more is needed?
On around the second day in Jasper, I was sent on a self-imposed mission to get pictures of Pyramid Mountain reflected in the waters of the tranquil Patricia Lake.
But the catch was to do it early in the morning, at sunrise. Yeah, right. Well, because I have such a good traveling partner, she went me against her better judgment. We got there in due time, but the clouds had the Pyramid Mountains socked in, and Patricia Lake was not exactly tranquil on that particular day.
But, since we were already up (even though we hadn't had our morning coffee yet), I got these following shots of Pyramid Lake just outside of Jasper. I must admit, the early morning fog made for some fun shooting.
Pyramid Lake
At another end of Pyramid Lake is Pyramid Island. The bridge takes you over to the island that can be walked in about three minutes, but you'll find yourself staying longer. It's been a favorite of the locals since the 1930s when the first footbridge was built. It's an ideal spot for relaxation and meditation.
The next few shots are of Lake Annette, another sweet, easy-to-get-to lake for a quiet stroll around.
On a day trip to the Miette Hot Springs we ran across these big horn sheep grazing on the side of the road and taking siesta on the hillside.
The hike around Patricia Lake was one of my favorites in the Jasper area. It's a 3-mile loop that starts with a hike through the stands of Aspen trees, then continues at the lake's edge. The last section of the loop is along sloughs where we saw some evidence of beavers, but never a beaver. Then comes the Cottonwood slough offering views of marshy pastures and the surrounding mountains.
We saw some pretty interesting mushrooms on the Patricia Lake Loop.
