the wandering chick
...Albuquerque
as colorful as the morning's balloons

Stroll the streets of this colorful and delightful old historic district and you just may find yourself singing "Don't worry, be happy." It just kinda does that to you.

There are plenty of shops to browse, many hidden in corners, nooks and crannies filled with abundant color, restaurants to fill the tummy and, it seems always in Albuquerque, brilliant blue sky.

volcanoes
To the west of Albuquerque lies the Petroglyph National Monument, a series of volcanoes that erupted 200,000 years ago. Though it's an interesting walk from one cone to another, it's not among these volcanoes that one might find many petroglyphs. The park stretches some 17 miles across Albuquerque, so the petroglyphs are a distance from the volcanic cones. The National Park Service offers detailed online descriptions of the trails on which one can see the petroglyphs.

tumbleweeds
Located in the vast open land of high desert, tumbleweeds are common, and on this particulary windy day that I visited with a friend, we were watching them speed across the volcanoes in every which direction, depending on the gusts. However, this fence became the end of the tumble for many.
