The lighthouse on Assateague Island
Berlin is a charming town on the eastern shore of Maryland. A slightly remote area, one must travel through Maryland to reach the barrier islands of Assateague and Chincoteague. Berlin is a wonderful half-day stopover. With a population of less than 5,000 people, it's one of the quaintest towns on the eastern shores of Maryland and Virginia.
One of the highlights of Berlin is the historic Hotel Atlantic, built around 1895. Grand in its Victorian-era style with a deep and comfortable front porch, the charm continues to the entrance, dining room and individual guest rooms where original photos of the early era can be enjoyed.
Leesylvania State Park is located outside Woodbridge, Virginia in Prince William County. It's an easily accessible destination for hiking, picnicing and boating and fishing activities, nestled on the shores of the Potomas River.
Under the train trestle seems to be a favorite spot for fishermen at Leesylvania State Park.
