...London
Fabulous, as far as big cities go

Some interesting facts about London:

London's population and New York City's population are very close, each more than 8 million. However, London is 138 square miles larger than NYC, therefore less crowded.

As for Paris, London's metropolitan area is 15 times larger than Paris, but Paris' population (the greater Paris region) is 12 million.

Big Ben is not really the tower that so many pictures are taken of. The tower is called the Clock Tower. Big Ben is actually the bell within the tower.

Greater London is made up of 33 buroughs. Fourteen of them make up Inner London, and this is the most "touristy." It includes the sights such as Buckingham Palace, the theaters, Hyde Park, Covent Gardens, Picadilly Square, Westminster Abbey and so forth. Nineteen buroughs surround Inner London, hence called Outer London.

The Tower Bridge is not to be confused with London Bridge. What one sees today in London is the Tower Bridge. To see the London Bridge, one must travel to Havasu City, Arizona.

For 2,000 years there has been a bridge across the Thames River in London. The first one was built by the Romans in 43.A.D. Over the next couple of thousand years, various bridges have taken its place, each to be either destroyed by fire, erosion or to be expanded.

In 1831 the New London Bridge was opened. But in 1962 it was discovered that the heavier amount of traffic was causing the bridge to sink. Yep, the London Bridge was falling down.

The city decided to auction off the bridge and, once again, build a new one.

It was Robert McCulloch, the founder of Havasu City, Arizona, who won the bid at close to $2,5 million. It cost him $7 million and three years to move it to Havasu City where it sits today.

These warning signs placed on the streets at the curbs of Inner London's bus streets kare not to be taken lightly. Tourists from outside the UK and a few other regions of the world are accustomed to looking "the other way." In "our world," traffic would be coming from the right at this corner.
