Somehow the name just doesn't fit this sweet and cozy state park. Frozen Head conjures up all sorts of imaginations dark and evil. Dark? Only in the sense that the density of the trees may block a bit of sunlight. But evil? Oh dear, no. Quite the opposite. Inviting and calming are much better, more accurate descriptions.
Simply, the park is named after a mountain peak in the Cumberlands. The mountain, so it says online, was named for its appearance when it is snow-covered.
Frozen Head State Park is thickly forested and has plenty of hiking trails. Camping and birding are also popular activities here.
And because of the tree density, it was a great place to do leaf-peeping.
