...Switzerland
in winter
A snow-bound chalet ouside Interlaken
Top and right: Views of an avalanche (that probably had happened years before) as seen from strategically-placed viewing windows inside the Eiger Mountain station, via the Swiss railways that offers train travel to the summit of the Jungfrau.
The station at the summit - the Jungfraujoch - is the highest railway station in Europe at more than 11,300 feet.
The trip up is an incredible journey and worth the 'steep' cost.
Books and movies have been written about this mountain, the Eiger, one of the three besides the Jungfrau and the Monch, that make up the Jungfrau Region in the very heart of the Swiss Alps.
Left and Above: Views from the "Top of Europe," the summit of the Jungfrau.
The majestic Swiss Alps
Icicles hang from roof and balconies in the Swiss village of Verbier, near the French border.
Verbier, where these shots left and right were taken, is a popular ski area in Switzerland on the French border.
These surrounding shots were taken in eastern Switzerland's Appenzell region. Mount Santis is the highest peak in that portion of the Swiss Alps.
A flock of sheep at the River Mattervispa, Zermatt
Snow gives personality to the icy Mattervispa River that flows through Zermatt.
It's your lucky day when you can see the summit of Zermatt's well-known Matterhorn.

You have to truly love the sport to ski in these conditions at the foot of the Matterhorn in Zermatt.
