...our reunion at Seaside Park, NJ
Seaside Park is a resort community on one of New Jersey's barrier islands and the location of John and Linda van Derslices' summer home.
This gang of Vilseck teachers knows how to pick its locations, and this year was no exception. John and Linda did a superb job of hosting, right down to John's 'Joyzee' pork rolls.
Thank you, Linda, and thank you, John, for putting up with us and for offering your home for our reunion.
Thanks to those of you who sent pictures for this page.
Island Beach State Park is located on the same barrier island as Seaside Park. We didn't let the lousy weather keep us from having a good time. John and Linda arranged a tour guide for us (Lynn, pictured in the black vest).
Breakfast at "The 3 C's," just down the street from Linda and John's place.
On Friday, we took a day trip to the Tuckerton Seaport Museum on the mainland. It brought to life the Jersey shore maritime culture and traditions of the past.
And after the museum, we headed right around the corner for rootbeer floats.
Funtown Pier in Seaside Park is the town hotspot for carnival rides, strolling the boardwalk and eating junk food. We did all that.
Teresa, our carousel operator gave us a deal on a ride and taught us the difference between a merry-go-round and a carousel. One goes clockwise (I think the merry-go-round), the other counter-clockwise.
Does anyone remember which is which??? Does anyone remember which direction we were going??
We did a lot of sitting around and chatting. When the weather was good, we were able to sit out in the backyard.
The Spyder. Just look at her. Beautiful. We sailed in Barnegat Bay on Saturday afternoon. For a few of us, it was a first-time experience, being on a single-sail sailboat - or any sailboat for that matter!
John and Charlie were the only ones willing to take the helm. The rest of us just sat back and enjoyed the ride. (OK, yes, there were times - only a couple - when we were, ugh, just a wee-bit nervous. )
And later that evening, we went back to the Yacht Club for drinks and a sunset.
To view some of the previous reunions, please return to the reunion home page.
Or, you may enjoy visiting the old (but not ancient!!) pictures taken when we were all in Vilseck.

This is the gang that made the reunion this year. Carol was with us for a day, but not the day this picture was taken.
