I've not built a Favorites page for a couple of years, so this will be a culmination of several U.S. trips that have been taken since. On the east coast, the pics include Cape Cod down to Key West, and in the western U.S., meandering the back roads from New Mexico to Washington state. Others were taken in my home state of Texas and many in Arizona. Enjoy and thanks for viewing them! Oh, yes! And then there were the August solar eclipse shots taken in Kansas!

As I've said repeatedly throughout my Web site, the saguaro skeletons take on a characteristic of their own as they stand, decayed and lifeless. Yet, there is a quality of "picturesque-ness" that even some of the live and healthy ones can't outdo.

A historical landmark on Johns Island, South Carolina, what is called the Angel Oak is a southern live oak tree. It is said to be 400 to 500 years old and stands 66 feet tall. Its canopy produces shade that covers 17,000 square feet. Its longest branch is 187 feet long. Southern live oaks are known to grow outwards rather than upwards. This rare one grows in both directions.

The Red Heron has a unique way of fishing. He flits about the water like a very bad dancer, or as one who has totally lost his mind, making abrupt turns, hops and jumps. By doing so, however, he's stirring the waters so that the fish come to the surface. Dinner time on Sanibel Island, Florida.

The bright colors of Florida's Giant Orange Grasshopper (also known as the Eastern Lubber Grasshopper) are a warning to predators that it contains toxins. It's a slow-moving grasshopper and they don't fly or jump. Though not harmful to humans, they are considered pesky and a nuisance to citrus, vegetable and landscaping plants in the southeast. Their length is 2 1/2 to 3 inches long.
I watched this hungry and determined turtle in Florida's Everglades make several attempts in biting off the bloom of the lily pad. Finally, with success, the turtle was happy, and the pretty yellow bloom was history.
