the wandering chick
...Family album, 1890s - 1959
Charles Frederick Neuwiller passed only two years after both his wife and his father. He had his own business in Galveston as a carpenter/contractor/cabinet maker. He died in 1905, three years after his wife and two years after his father, his oldest daughter and a newborn son. He was 50 years old.
Ernst August Neuwiller was born March 29, 1821, probably in Germany. His death certificate places him in America in 1888.
He was a weaver by trade.
It is speculated that he lost his wife in Germany and so came to America to live with his son Charles Frederick and Charles' family. He died at the family residence at 1806 Market Street at 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 1903 at the age of 83.
Telephone directory listing, Galveston, 1895 listing Ernst August, Charles Frederick and William Neuwiller.
William is believed to be the brother of Charles F. He, his wife and three children perished in Galveston's 1900 storm.
According to Ernst A. Neuwiller's death certificate, there are three mistakes on this tombstone: His initials should be E.A.; he was born in 1821; he passed on Aug. 9, 1903.
It is believed that our grandfather, Carl, was sent to Germany at an early age to study cabinet making.
