...Yoho National Park
B.C., Canada
The Yoho National Park holds its own against the larger and more well-known Banff and Jasper National Parks. With its spectacular Emerald Lake, Natural Bridge and the Takakkaw Falls, it's an area not to be missed.
Emerald Lake is one of my favorite three lakes in the Canadian Rockies. It's nestled cozily between Burgess Mtn and Michael Peak and has a nice easy-going walking trail around it.
Nor far from Emerald Lake and in complete contrast to her calm and serene water are the outrageous and wild falls of Natural Bridge.
Here, the raging water of the Kicking Horse River rushes through solid rock, creating, over the thousands of years, a natural bridge where the rock underneath has been gradually eroded away.
The rock is a piece of art in itself, sculpted by the furious waters of the Kicking Horse falls.
Here are the calmer waters of the Kicking Horse River just before it hits the falls.
Near the town Field, the Kicking Horse River travels a more gentle course, but still holds her crystal clear turquoise color.
The small village of Field, population 200, is the hub for the Yoho National Park. It has a spirit of pride and a heart that welcomes those wandering in. Towering above is Mt. Stephen.
Cathedral Mountain (above and below) can be seen from points as you travel the road between Yoho Natl Park and Banff NP. It's also seen from the Takakkaw Falls, pictures of which are below. Cathedral Mountain is more than 10,400 feet high.
Near Cathedral Mountain is Mount Stephen.
In ths smallest and most out of the way places, if you look, you can find pools of water playing among the rocks.. This was taken in the Yoho Natl Park where the Kicking Horse River and the Yoho River converge.
Takakkaw Falls is an astounding waterfall in the Yoho Natl Park.
Feel the mist and gaze at the eternal rainbow as the water plunges 1,250 feet down the face of the cliff from Daly Glacier above, eventually landing as a swiftly-running stream right at your feet.
