Capitola pier

I hadn't heard of Capitola, a small, colorful beach town on Monterey Bay just south of Santa Cruz, but it turned out to be one of my favorites. It's a nice-sized resort with restaurants and shops along the beachfront. Its wharf is fun to stroll and people- or bird-watch.

Rental bungalows on the sand add a whimsical flavor to the town, and the trendy shops are a bit above the typical souvenir shops.

Capitola is said to be the oldest beach town on the west coast.

comorant
This little guy, a comorant, seemed to be fairly accustomed to people on the Capitola wharf. He strolled right along witih them, keeping in step with those who offered a tasty handout.
Eyes wide open....for food!
Imagine this view while eating clam chowder and fried calamari al fredo at one of Capitola's many beachfront restaurants. Life is good.
