...White Tank Mountains

This year 2017 was a fantastic one for wildflowers not only in Arizona, but certainly in surrounding states as well. The Sonoran Desert was crazy with color, and I could think of a couple dozen places I'd like to be all at once.

Not having to go far, my own area of Lake Pleasant was super-blooming with globe mallow and brittlebush. I took another jaunt over to the White Tank Mountains and discovered whole mountain sides covered in the brilliant yellow brittlebush.

That's what's covered on this page. Enjoy!

The White Tank Mountains are off the Loop 303 in the west valley. The mountain range, whose peaks rise to around 4,000 feet, make up the White Tank Mountains Regional Park. Its rugged peaks, rather than rounded, suggest it's a fairly new range of mountains. Near the base of the range is a white granite rock that, over time, has been exposed by heavy rainfall. These depressions that have been formed in the rock are called tanks. Hence, White Tank Mountains.
