...The gang
over the years

Pleasant Harbor RV Resort in Peoria, Arizona has been my winter home away from home since about 2010. It's a great place to do some fun RV-ing, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, yet close enough to get in for shopping and entertainment.

Sure, it has the necessities of the average RV park, but it's not the park that has been bringing me back the last few years. It's the people I've met here. That may sound like a cliche', but in this case, it's truly not. I have a group of friends - the gang - that has captured my heart and reminded me some things are better done with friends.

This page of pictures is for us, to look back and remember some of the many, many good times we've had together.

May there be many more ahead!

I told my besties not to have any fun while I was gone, which, I suppose, was a little selfish on my part. But they knew it was spoken in jest, as is their act in this photo. They weren't fooling me. I just told them they look like those sad puppies in the adopt - a - puppy infomercials. Happy Birthday, Carol!

For as long as we're all friends, there will be more pictures. Check back in the fall when once again we meet up for yet another season of happy gatherings and good times.

These are not all my photos. They''re a collection from the gang. If anyone has any of the gang that you want posted, send them to me. I'll add them. Thanks

Russ and Caroline Pomahac were visitors to Pleasant Harbor when the majority of us today didn't even know it existed. I met them when they wintered in the Rosette for a few winters before they decided not to return. They live on Pender Island in British Columbia, and I visited them in the fall while traveling B.C. It was good seeing them again. 2016

rock-hunting day
rock-hunting day

It was a pleasant January day when seven of us masked hikers took a ride into the desert to search for rocks. We build cairns with them to add a little something special each to our own outdoor space. A cairn is a stack of rocks, sometimes pyramid shaped, sometimes not. Each cairn takes on its own characteristics, some tilted, some straight. Doesn't matter as long as they stay stacked.

Originally, cairns were built by game hunters to mark the direction of a herd. The top rock was pointed in shape and aimed in the direction the herd could be found. In modern days, they are constructed on many hiking trails to mark the path. For us, however, it's just the fun of finding and stacking the rocks ...whimsical yard ornaments that satisfy our need for an outdoor activity. 2021

hike
The Morgan City Wash hike is one of our favorites because it's so different from any of the others. It starts out on the Beardsley Trail, but then ventures off into a nearby canyon. From that point it gets very interesting. You no longer feel like you're in the desert. A stream runs parallel to the trail, offering the soothing sound of trickling water. Despite the overgrowth, the trail is well marked and maintained.

This is only part of the group that started out on this hike on the White Tank Mtns Black Rock Long Loop. Before we even started out, Gretchen fell and had to stay back. Debi stayed with her. The Black Rock Long Loop turns into the latter part of the Waterfall Trail, so it's a perfect 3-mile (approx.) hike. The next 8 pictures were taken on this hike.

One of several dangers when roaming the desert is the "teddy bear" cholla so named for its seemingly innocent furry look from a distance. But it's other name is "jumping cholla" because it attaches to anything that comes in close contact. In this case, this gal passed to0 close to one, and it attached to her jacket. As anyone would instinctivly do, she brushed it away. Now stuck in two places in her fingers, the only way to get it out is to pull it out with tweezers, pliers or some other such device. All we had this day was a plastic fork. We got the cholla out, but it truly is extremely painful because of the fishing hook- type thorns. I think a lesson was learned this day.
