I'll admit, I've not done a whole of travel in Alabama. I've passed through it many many times, but usually it's inland on my way to the northeast.

But I recently returned from Atlanta and decided I'd take the coastal route through Alabama, not knowing I'd be giving myself a great surprise. I made a last-minute decision to go check out Dauphin Island, south of Mobile. I'm so glad I did.

Gulf Shores, Alabama is another beautiful traditional white-sand beach that stretches for miles east to west. Public beach access is plentiful without a lot of commercial development. At the east end of the beach boulevard is a vast state park.A little farther east comes the town of Orange Beach with a more commercial feel. Take a look at a few photos of Gulf Shores.
