...Vermont

Traveling Vermont's back roads is a real joy. Pleasant scenery, quiet, no big honkin' trucks, little traffic at all, as a matter of fact.

State Highway 100 north to Troy is a scenic drive. There's a waterfall in North Troy that hardly any attention is given to; no signs to mark its location. But if you see two goats in the middle of the road, you'll know you're in the right vicinity.

Montpelier is the smallest capital city in the U.S., with a population of less than 8,000. Despite that, it has lots to offer.

Wolcott has one of the few remaining covered railroad bridges in the States.

No matter which road is traveled, there's always something to catch one's interest.

These silly goats had no intention of leaving their warm sunny spot in the middle of the road. Troy, off State Highway 100.

Big Falls didn't really live up to its name while I visited it, but online descriptions rate it as a top waterfall in the state. The draw is the power with which the water gushes through the narrow passageway of the gorge. The falls are rather remote and little attention is given to them, though they are within the boundary of the Big Falls State Park, outside North Troy. A dirt road will take you to them. The water of the falls comes from the Missisquoi River.

brake for moose sign
Truth be told, I wasn't out on the road early enough (or late enough) to see any moose. I guess if you want to see them, it's on their time, not your own.
