San Leon is located on a peninsula that juts out into the waters of Galveston Bay and the Houston Ship Channel. Its population is somewhere around 5,000 residents, slowly growing back after being wiped off the map by Hurricane Ike in 2008.

It's a fairly scenic place along the shoreline, but not particularly a day trip destination. Fish, shrimp and oyster boats offer photographic opportunities.

The grounds of the restaurant Topwater Grill are an interesting spot to watch the fishing boats come in. Most of the photos on this page were taken there, including the pelicans' activity around the fish cleaning table. Topwater is located on the southern most point of San Leon.
