Most people think of Germany as being landlocked, but its northern end borders the North Sea, and there lies the beautiful island of Sylt, very near to the Danish border.

Pristine dunes, clear waters and little traffic make Sylt one of Germany's most popular beach locations.

Since cars are not allowed on the island, a bicycle is a perfect mode of transportation. The only place bikes are not allowed is through many of Sylt's protected dunes, which are natural animal habitats.

Miles of grassy dunes protect the island from the sea. They ;make wonderful hiking trips.
