The Muese-Argonne American Cemetery

The Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial is the final resting place for 14,246 Americans who died in World War I, most of them in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. The battle, also known as the Battle of the Argonne Forest, lasted six weeks between September and November of 1918. It was the greatest American battle of the first world war.

The cemetery contains the largest number of deceased Americans in Europe. Verdun is located in northeastern France, some 35 miles northwest of Metz.
