...Elk Falls

The Elk Falls Provincial Park on Highway 28 outside Campbell River is certainly worth a couple hours of time to view the waterfall and suspension bridge that spans the Campbell River Canyon.

Not to be outdone by either of those fantastic sights is the trail itself through an old-growth forest of Douglas fir that leads to them. Though the journey may not have been better than the destination, it was certainly as spectacular.

I went early in the day when the fog could still be seen as a backdrop through the trees, giving it an almost haunting feel. By the time I got to the falls and bridge, it had dissipated, allowing a clear view of the falls, the bridge and the canyon wall below.

The suspension bridge is almost brand new at the time these pictures were taken, having been completed in May of 2015. It stretches 262 feet (80 meters) across the canyon. In this picture, the falls (though out of view) are to the left. The bridge is 209 (64 meters) feet above the canyon floor.
