Valley of the Five Lakes
Jasper's Valley of the Five Lakes is an easy loop trail that winds you around five different lakes, each with its own color, size and personality. Spend some time, take a lunch and listen for the loons.

Returning from a little jaunt one late afternoon, we spotted cars pulled along side the road. That's a sure sign of wildlife in the area. So, we quickly turned around and joined the crowd. There were three male elk, two of which were battling it out, while the big daddy of them all watched nearby. Since we were visiting in the middle of rutting season, we were hoping we might see something like this, though to be perfectly honest, I thought the two battling would have been a little more eager to kick butt. I didn't see nostrils flaring nor rage in their eyes.

I had never heard a tree fall in the forest until this day. My friend and I were walking the path when we heard a very loud crack. We kinda looked at each other, then continued on the trail. Then about a minute later, we heard a louder crack, then the definite sound of a falling tree. We walked back to where we had noticed that a particular tree looked a little unstable, and yep...that's the one that fell

The Athabasca River runs a course just outside of Jasper's south end. A short but sweet walking path offers nice views of the crystal clear water.
autumn approaches
Just near the end of our trip to the Canadian Rockies, we were starting to see hints of autumn.
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and Lac Beauvert
There are three Fairmont hotels in the Banff and Jasper National Parks: One in Banff, one on Lake Louise and this one, the Jasper Park Hotel. Though not as luxurious as the other two, its setting is top class due to a golf course and Lac Beauvert. There's a two-mile walking loop that travels completely around the lake.
