an all-day affair even without the zoo
...Balboa Park

Put your walking shoes on and head up El Prado into the beautiful setting of Balboa Park. Lots of gardens and museums, immaculate landscaping and arched walkways and buildings of the Spanish-Renaissance style will have your jaws dropping and your cameras rising.

A detailed map can be obtained at the Visitor Center, and you'll find it useful and time-saving. I spent the day in the park and didn't even make it over to the zoo.

If you get tired of walking - or lost - hop the free tram which has get-0n get-off stops throughout the park.

Balboa Park was definitely a highlight of my five days in San Diego.
